I heard a great quote the other day and it really got me thinking. “For those who believe -- no proof is necessary; for those who do not believe -- no proof is enough.” by Stewart Chase. Having spent a lot of time in debates with people of different belief systems and being extremely frustrated with the absolute intransigence of most people, it occurred to me that this was a quite profound statement. I have never changed anybody’s mind and nobody has ever changed mine. I found this thought ex…

I have been a seeker all of my life. I have no idea why, it has just always been my nature. I have always looked around me and tried to understand just what is going on; at the same time being fascinated by all of the different conclusions that other people have drawn. I often have feelings of discomfort when I see or talk to all the people who have absolute unquestioning beliefs in their god. I am also a little jealous of the security which that belief often brings. My questioning nature often…

One of the biggest obstacles for many people that prevents them from following the spiritual path in life seems to be a general misunderstanding about just what “spiritual path” means. they perceive that there are actually negative aspects to it. Some people just don’t believe in God, some have a problem with religion in general. Some, see people who do follow a spiritual path as being “holier than thou” or self-righteous’
There is however a very appealing way to look at it ! Spirituality in…

I would like to ask you all to do a prayer or meditation tonight and tomorrow morning that the dramatic rise in the market today [6%-a four month record] continues tomorrow and signals the beginning of President Obama's efforts to turn the economy around.
In case you think this is silly it has been proven that group medications can have a drastic defects on people's behavior.
In an experiment in 1993 a control group of people meditated on reducing the crime rate in Washington D.C. and suceeded…

Spiritual Humanism explores humankind’s deepest potential for the expression of emotional well-being, sanity, intelligent living, love and the humane ordering of society. Founded in the full potential of human life, Spiritual Humanism is not a philosophy, but rather suggests a practical, effective and efficient means by which integral, holistic living could be achieved. And because it is anchored in the reality of human experience alone, recognizing no super-human influence or directive power ov…

It is all very interesting and kind of fun to explore the scientific meaning of "reality". I have been trying to understand it all of my life.
However, when dealing with and trying to understand human interactions, science has varied little to do with it.
There are several di…

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?
--Nietzs…

I've seen a couple of things In the news lately that really push my buttons.
I am really getting tired of being treated like a second-class citizen just because I don't believe in one of the accepted "gods". I remember being raised with the concept that we [the Catholics] were the only ones going to heaven and as for the people and all those other religions "well at least they believe in some God". that attitude persists today as demonstrated by Senator Dole's absurd ad calling her opponent…

I'm very happy to see how well this new site is doing !
Yesterday we went over 100 members, it makes me feel good to know that there are so many of us all working to make this world a better place ! Most of my life I have been frustrated by the fact that I felt so powerless over the insanity that is going on in the world . I know I can't save the world , but at least here I feel that I'm contributing something and while I am at it, I'm meeting so many wonderful people ! It makes life so much mor…

Those of you who know me, or at least have read my blog know that my whole life [literally] has been a search for answers and a struggle to understand what others proclaimed to be to be the "truth"; a specially in the area of spirituality and religion. For some reason the struggle has caused me incredible emotional pain. I don't know why, it just did. The inability to make sense of all the confusing, wildly varying explanations that I heard caused a growing need me to understand.
My inability t…

From a very earliest recollections as a young boy feeling (knowing actually !) That I seem to be different somehow from those around me. I know that this is very common, especially among alcoholics and addicts. But in my case it seemed to be different than just a feeling of separateness. I have always been very empathic and it was really obvious to me that the way I experience the world around me was radically different from everyone I knew. The things that I was told should make me happy, gi…
