Living in the bible belt is not easy if you don't look at the bible as "THE" guide to spiritual living. I joined the Unitarian Universalists several years ago because they encourage an indivual's spiritual searches and recognize that everybody has their own path to enlightenment.
For the first time in my life, nobody was trying to tell me what I should believe in order to belong. What a relief!
I turned my back on conventional religion about 35 years ago, when I started my soul-searching and realized that my belief about God, does not coincide with Christian teachings. It was as if every fiber of my soul fought against the conventional teachings. These teachings are so man-made! I would rather not believe in a God, than the God described in scriptures!
Anyway, I won't write a book, just wanted to give you an idea of where I come from.
